Winter is the coldest season of year. Soft snow falls everywhere, seemingly freezing everything in place. Even in a tropical country like the Philippines gets its fair share of chilly winds and cold air. However, one young boy in China redefined what cold really means when a picture of him went viral on social media. It resulted in him gaining the moniker “Snowflake Boy.”
Apparently, someone caught a snapshot of him while his entire hair was covered in ice. Based on Metro’s report, the 10-year-old walked to his school through the freezing temperatures so that he wouldn’t miss his exam.
Fu Heng, the headmaster of Zhuanshanbao primary school in the Xinjie Township, said in an interview, “It was the first day of their final exams. The temperatures dropped to minus nine degrees Celsius in about 30 minutes that morning.”
He was the one who took a picture of the boy. When netizens saw it, they jokingly dubbed him “Snowflake Boy.” Heng didn’t disclose his identity but mentioned that the boy is a “third-grade pupil.”
The headmaster also revealed that “Snowflake Boy” lives far away from the school. In addition, he is also known as the “class clown.” The headmaster added that the boy does not live with his parents, but is being taken care of by his elderly relatives and siblings.
Heng further revealed that the school gives “Snowflake Boy” breakfast every day. However, he stated that the school premises do not have heaters due to their lack of funds. This prompted the boy to have a hard time drying his hair off, hence the sensational picture.
In an additional report from Express, it was cited that the boy walked a total of 4.5 kilometers. According to the source:
“Netizens on Chinese social media, where the picture has been liked more than 14,000 times and shared thousands of times more, have left encouraging messages for the boy.”
